Sea Otter Classic 2012

04.24.2012

The 2012 Sea Otter Classic has come and gone, but it was a good one! The weather this year was once again spectacular- if a bit hot- unllike previous years where the rain came down sideways and rivers of mud flowed through the venue. Monterey, California once again played host to four days of incredible racing and demos and we're proud to have been a part of it again.

The Primal/MapMyRide powered by BH womens professional team raced in the stage race, with a full roster of talented riders. Day 1 was not an ideal start to the stage race, with several riders involved in crashes in the opening criterium. Emily Kachorek managed an 8th place and Liza Rachetto grabbed 10th for the team. Though battered and bruised, the ladies gamely fought on. Stage 2 was a tough road race with plenty of climbing that saw Alisha Welsh finish 5th against a stellar field, which put her in the lead in the Queen of the Mountains competition (QOM). Stage 3 was the tough time trial that saw Emily Kachorek with an impressive 6th, Alisha in 13th and an improving Jen Weinbrecht in 19th for three riders inside the top 20. The final stage was the brutal circuit race on the Laguna Seca raceway, featuring the infamous "corkscrew'. The pace was fast and furious from the start, but the ladies rode smart and defended Alisha's QOM jersey. Jen Weinbrecht managed 10th on the stage, with Alisha securely in 12th. Alisha finished the race as the highest placed in 14th overall and with the QOM jersey firmly in her possession. The team fought off crashes and bad luck, and continued to show their class and determination, while also being fantastic advocates for women's cycling.

On the morning of the time trial, the team did a casual VIP ride/ photo shoot with friends and team sponsors. The ride cruised the coast along the famous 17 Mile Drive from Carmel to Monterey. The views were spectacular and the team enjoyed riding and speaking with guests along the way- a fantastic warm up prior to the time trial.

All in all, Sea Otter was a success for the team and for BH Bikes as well. If you came by our booth and said hello- which many of you did- or took a bike out for a demo, we sincerely thank you and hope to see you again next year!

Heading out for the VIP/ sponsor ride.

Beautiful morning in Monterey for a ride!
