BH Bikes Takes Two Podium Spots in Spanish Cyclocross

12.15.2010

Despite some difficulties, Egoitz Murgoitio (Hirumet Taldea Group) and Isaac Suárez (Cantabria Infinita-BH) played their cards well in the thrilling last race of the Spanish Cup. An incredible day of cyclocross in which Murgoitio managed to stay ahead of Larrinaga (MMR - Lizarte) but couldn't stop him from winning his third consecutive Spanish Cup title, following his wins in 2008 and 2009.

Larrinaga profited from the bad luck of his rivals: Murgoitio had mechanical problems at the beginning of the race, and Suarez got a flat when he was going for a break in the race. With Suarez out of the picture, the stage was set for the last duel of the season between Egoitz Murgoitio and Javier Ruíz de Larrinaga.

Larrinaga knew that he just had to come in second to win the Cup, and Murgoitio, knowing that he wouldn't be taking home the trophy, found satisfaction in winning this race and showing that, of all the Spanish cyclocross racers, he's the one in best shape. From the start, his goals were perfectly clear. "I'm going out to win this race, to give it all I've got; we'll see what happens," he said. And he was true to his word, taking home this first place in the Spanish Cup. "I wasn't off to a very good start, what with the flat in the second lap, but I felt good and am very happy with the two wins this weekend," he said referring to his other win the day before in Llodio.

Llanez, of Cantabria Infinita-BH, was close to winning but in the end settled for a well-deserved third place. "I'm very disappointed, because today my legs were all set to win, but it just wasn't going to be. Both Larrinaga and Murgoitio went on the attack a couple of times, and I didn't have any difficulty staying right behind them, and with only three laps to go, I decided to go for it and pressed hard, and when it looked like I had a few meter's lead on them, I had a mechanical problem that made me lose 50 seconds. After all that good feeling, I really needed to see myself on the podium," said Suárez.
